HACCSA was born from a vision to impart knowledge and skills to health care workers. HACCSA is led by René Sparks, a Registered Nurse by profession. René hails from the Belhar/Elsies River communities, where community engagement and development formed a part of her formative years.
She started her advocacy journey whilst at school, where she championed the rights of LGBTI and MSM and experienced exclusion as a result of her passion for equity. She has experience in the private, public, and civil society sectors, having worked in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.
René has supported multiple NGOs across South Africa, setting up HIV Testing Services, procuring health products, facilitating numerous training interventions, establishing quality assurance committees, and offering on-site mentoring and support across Key and Vulnerable population HIV Prevention Programmes. She has a wealth of experience working on PEPFAR, USAID, ELMA Philanthropies, and Atlantic Institute Grants.

is an accomplished public health professional with over 15 years in program management and health systems strengthening. She holds an MPH from Sefako Makgatho University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health from Monash University, and Honours in Social Work from UNISA.
Most recently serving as Provincial Quality Improvement Coordinator with the National Department of Health in North West Province, she led HIV and TB programs while working with PEPFAR, CDC, and Global Fund partners. Her career includes roles with Aquity Innovations, Anova Health Institute, Right to Care, and Wits RHI.
Passionate about equitable healthcare access, particularly in HIV, TB, and sexual reproductive health, Relebohile combines technical expertise with strong leadership and advocacy skills, contributing to South Africa’s health improvement goals for vulnerable communities.
Zodwa Dam is an experienced trainer and program coordinator with over 12 years of expertise in HIV testing services, quality assurance, and capacity building. She holds a BTech in Biomedical Technology from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and is a certified Master Trainer in the Quality Assurance Cycle for HIV Rapid Testing.
Zodwa has facilitated numerous training programs for the Department of Health, Regional Training Centres, and other stakeholders, including national “Train the Trainer” sessions. She has played a critical role in implementing the updated National HIV Testing Services (HTS) policy guidelines and monitoring their roll-out nationwide.
Since 2018, Zodwa has held leadership roles in provincial program management and coordination of HIV rapid testing services, ensuring adherence to quality standards and sustainable implementation. She is respected for her ability to deliver engaging training, mentor facilitators, and drive program excellence at scale.
is an experienced educator and community health advocate with over 30 years in higher education, entrepreneurship, and public health. She holds a Human Ecology degree from UWC (1989) and an Honours in HIV and AIDS Behavioural Studies from Vista University.
She taught at Protea College for 12 years across subjects including clothing construction, hospitality, interior design, and entrepreneurship, before transitioning to HIV sector roles as administrator, developer, and program coordinator. Known for her professionalism and advocacy passion, Maxine combines academic expertise with community-based experience and is recognized as an inspiring facilitator who builds positive relationships.
is a laboratory technologist and public health professional with over a decade of experience in laboratory systems strengthening, HIV rapid testing, and quality assurance. She has worked extensively across South Africa—supporting districts in the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and Western Cape—as well as internationally in Zambia.
Her expertise lies at the intersection of laboratory services and quality assurance, where she has provided technical assistance, mentoring, and training to strengthen health systems and advance global HIV targets (90-90-90 and now 95-95-95).
Debra is known for her commitment to excellence, strong work ethic, and ability to collaborate across diverse cultural and professional settings. Passionate about making a difference, she continues to contribute to the advancement of quality healthcare services through training, mentorship, and innovative problem-solving.- Mamaki Mothiba is a healthcare professional with over 15 years of experience in quality improvement, laboratory systems, and capacity building within the public health sector. With expertise in HIV Testing Services (HTS), Rapid Test Continuous Quality Improvement (RTCQI), and Clinic-Laboratory Interface (CLI) programs, she has been instrumental in strengthening health systems and ensuring compliance with national and global standards.
She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Public Health and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Public Health. Her additional training includes Clinical Research Coordination, Project Management, and Occupational Health and Safety.
As a master trainer and facilitator, Mamaki has led numerous capacity-building initiatives, integrating e-learning platforms, policy development, and mentoring strategies within the Gauteng Department of Health and beyond. Her collaborative approach with government, NGOs, and academic institutions has contributed significantly to improved service delivery and patient outcomes. 
is a highly experienced healthcare professional with over three decades in nursing, spanning clinical, community, research, and leadership roles. Starting her career at 17, she has worked in bedside nursing, fieldwork, unit management, and nurse training.
In 2001, she presented at an international conference in Paris on implementing TB DOTS programs in community clinics. Currently pursuing a BA (Cur) degree with plans for Public Health studies, she serves as Director of D’Health Projects and presents on Womb.FM, sharing insights on health and wellness.
Known for her adaptability across cultures and generations while embracing technological change, Debbie brings extensive knowledge, leadership, and passion for healthcare improvement to her facilitation and training work.
